NYDN: Close this large construction loophole
It may have gotten good press, but thanks to a loophole in Gov. Cuomo’s order to shut down non-essential construction, the lives of New York City’s construction workers are still being put in great danger during the pandemic.
On March 7, Cuomo issued an executive order limiting the workforce at non-essential businesses. No such restrictions were put on essential businesses, which included all construction. Thirteen days later, he issued another order and required all non-essential businesses to shut down. Essential businesses were allowed to continue, and, as a result, construction continued unabated.
